Obituary for Dale F. Uphill

Dale F. Uphill passed away on August 6, 2019. He was born to Jack and Helen Uphill, in South Milwaukee on April 21, 1929. Dale was the oldest of five children; sister Joyce (Lee) Gorski of Franklin, sister Faye (Bob) Johnson of Racine, brother Jack (Pat) Uphill of Oak Creek, and brother Gary (Carla) Uphill of South Milwaukee. Dale served in the army as a Staff Sargeant for 3 years, 9 months, and 27 days but who was counting he always said! Dale married Darlene J. Schlader, August 22, 1953, in Oconto at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. They had 5 beautiful children and loved them all. They are Lori (Cal) Knaide of Green Bay, Steve (Diane) Uphill of Combined Locks, Bob (Tonie) Uphill of Oconto, Don (Jeannie) Uphill of Kaukauna, and Carol (Tim) Newbury of Oconto. Dale and Darlene have 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Dale owned two furniture stores. One was in Lena and the other was in Oconto. Dale worked at Liquid Carbonic Corporation in Oconto as a National Service Representative. He traveled all over the United States. He then became a barber working with Darlene and other employees until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion. Dale joined the Machickanee Players and acted and/or directed in 28 plays. Dale and Pat Sohrweide played the lead roles in “Hello Dolly.” He had such a stage voice. He could be heard all over because his voice was clear and distinct. He was a great singer. He was the President of the Senior Card Club in Oconto for several years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, and traveling. He loved telling jokes and playing cards. He loved living in Oconto and always said he’d never go back to the Big City. He enjoyed living and raising his family in Oconto with it’s wide open spaces where the air was clear.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Helen Uphill, his brother Gary Uphill, daughter-in-law, Diane (Gilles) Uphill, brother-in-law, Lee Gorski, son-in-law, Calvin Knaide IV, and great-grandson, Samuel Uphill.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, August 10, 2019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Karuhn officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites.
