Obituary for Willie Marene Wittkopf

A true Angel got her wings. Willie Marene (Taylor) Wittkopf passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016. Willie was born and raised in Mississippi. She met her future husband, Bennie, while he was stationed there in the Army. They were married November 16, 1944 and moved to Oconto. Bennie preceded her in death on April 16, 1999. Willie worked at Oconto Memorial Hospital for over 33 years. Many of the people reading this were probably brought into this world with Willie being the first one to hold them or their children, or both. She was a very kind and loving soul. Grandma Willie loved her grandchildren. She spent many hours and trips to the dollar stores with them. She had a very special bond with Greyson. The mention of his name would make her face light up. He brought so much joy to her. Willie was a member of First American Lutheran Church.

Willie is survived by her children, Willie “Bill” (Jan) Wittkopf, Tom (Mary) Wittkopf, John (Carol) Wittkopf, Bennie (Jodi) Wittkopf, David (Marta) Wittkopf, Gail Retzlaff; siblings, Kathleen Mullins and Fred (Joann)Taylor; grandchildren, Chad (Jasmine) Wittkopf, Robert (Jessie) Ahnen, Ryan (Jodi) Wittkopf, Shane Wittkopf, Andrea Wittkopf, Alyson Wittkopf, David (Cindy) Wittkopf, Shannon (Eugene) Cornelius, Emily Retzlaff, Anna (John Wendland) Retzlaff; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, many nieces and nephews. Willie was preceded in death by Linda Ahnen; grandson, Mikel Wittkopf, daughter-in-law, Phyllis Wittkopf; siblings, Ina Spruill, Buford Taylor, James Taylor, Herbert Taylor, Betty Thompson and twin sister, Allene Newton.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2015. Visitation will continue on Thursday, January 14, from 10 to 11 AM at First American Lutheran Church, Oconto. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Thursday at the church with Rev. Mary Zupansic officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
