Obituary for William Baird

William Wharrie Baird, 72, of Oconto, passed away Monday, May 21, 2007 at Woodlands of Oconto. William was born October 28, 1934 in Kenosha to the late Stanley and Margaret (Wharrie) Baird. He married Donna Mikalson on August 10, 1957. William owned and operated the Brigadoon and Beavers Fort Restaurants. William was a teacher, teaching at the High School level and Tech-School. He loved playing cards with his card club, golfing, and anything Scottish. He also loved his Packers. William was a member of the National Guard for eight years, past president of 3 Kiwanis Clubs and a member of Kiwanis for over 30 years. He was a member of the Clan Baird Society World Wide, President of Vernon Reformed Presbyterian Church & Cemetery Association, Waukesha. William was head of the Literacy Council and member of the Humane Society, and Court Master for Oconto County. William is survived by his wife Donna Baird, Oconto; a daughter Susan (Paul) Exworthy, Oconto; a son Patrick Baird, Oconto; a brother James (Verna) Baird, Fort Atkinson; a sister Margaret (Carl) Birk, Fort Atkinson; a cousin Nancy (Dennis) Prahl, Appleton; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. William is preceded in death by a brother Robert Baird and a sister Mary Baird. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 6:30 PM Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Memorial services will be conducted 6:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Frederik Schulz officiating. On line condolences may be expressed at In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Humane Society.
