Obituary for Walter Raetz

Walter E. Raetz, 94, of Oconto, passed away Friday, January 26, 2007 at Woodlands of Oconto. Walter was born October 10, 1912 in the Town of Hale to the late Fredrick and Elizabeth (Behling) Raetz. He married Louise Rietz on January 15, 1944. She preceded him in death on December 28, 1989. In 1935 Walter spent 18 months in the Conservation Corps where he played a mean trombone in their dance band. He then spent 8 years in the Army Air Corps, serving during WWII. In 1946 he got his pilots license. Walter was a man of many talents. Most of his married life he built boats and beautiful wooden ship models. He also built a twin-ruddered airplane. He was never idle. Walter was a member of the EAA. Walter is survived by two daughters Yvonne Raetz, Oconto; Carleen (George) Weslow, Little Suamico; three grandchildren Melinda (Rich) Mensen, Nathan Weslow, Anna Louise Weslow, and one great granddaughter Lyric Mensen. He is preceded in death by three brothers Palmer, Martin, Raymond and three sisters Elizabeth, Gertrude and Ruth. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 10 to 11 AM Monday, January 29, 2007. Memorial services will be conducted 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with Intern Pastor Ann Klavano officiating. On line condolences may be expressed at
