GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Our wonderful mama, gramma and great gramma, Violet Eleanor (O’Kon) Borchert, 94, entered heaven on Easter morning, April 17, 2022. She was born on July 1, 1927 to Elsa Schmeling Rogahn Ruppel and Jerome O’Kon in Wauwatosa, WI. Because her mother worked, she was pretty much raised by her loving grandparents. She attended Washington Grade School, then transferred to St. John’s Lutheran Grade School, then attending Wauwatosa High School and Milwaukee Vocational School. Violet worked at the Johnson Cookie and Candy Company on an assembly line and then transferred to a job as a telephone operator at Wisconsin Telephone Company. She then accepted a job at First Wisconsin Trust Company as a messenger and file clerk. Violet met Wesley Borchert in Milwaukee prior to his being deployed with the United States Coast Guard during WWII. They corresponded while he was in the military and after his return to the United States, they were married on September 21, 1946, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa, and moved to his family farm in the Swede Town, Little River area of Oconto, raising a family of three children there. We have so many wonderful memories of fun times and enjoyable learning experiences, such as the train rides to Milwaukee or teaching us board games and teaching us how to cook and bake in the kitchen. Most of all you instilled in us the love of God, His Son Jesus and the importance of that in our lives. As we grew up and went our way into the world, you had to learn to drive tractors and assist with making hay and harvesting corn, which was very admirable for a former “city girl”. When grandchildren began to be a part of the family, you shared many of those same fun and enjoyable learning experiences with them.
Violet is survived by a daughter, Yvonne Banach, Peshtigo; two sons, Howard (Paulette), AR; Raymond (Karen), AZ; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley in May of 2018, her parents and grandparents and an infant son.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Zion Lutheran Church, Oconto, from 10 AM to 12 Noon, Thursday, April 21, 2022. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday 12 Noon at the church with the Rev. Michael Mathey officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
Thank you, Mom for all the tender love and care, for all the fun and laughter and happiness that we shared. Rest with the angels and enjoy their singing now.
