Steven “Weiner” Winans, 69, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 14th, 2021. He took his last breath surrounded by family while listening to his two favorite Willie Nelson songs. Steve was born October 26th, 1951 to Lyllus and Alvin “Bud” Winans. He graduated from Oconto High School then immediately enlisted in the army. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. His proudest moment was going on the Glory Honor Flight. In true fashion, Steve was the leader of the pack for the welcome back parade. Steve was many things to many different people. He was a jokester, told the best stories, could always make you laugh, found ways to get into mischief, and had the best sense of humor (completely inappropriate at times), and could light up any room he walked into. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He always had a smile on his face. Of all the things he was, Steve will be best known for his stubbornness; this is what carried him through life. He defied odds numerous times and proved so many wrong. We always joked that he far exceeded his “9 lives.” Steve enjoyed going on trips all over the world, spending time with friends and family, riding his scooter, playing cards, schmoozing the ladies, and BSing with anyone who would listen. He loved to sing songs, especially to his Great Great Niece Lyleigh, and loved listening to Willie Nelson. He was very proud of his Grandchildren and his nieces Brittany, Kailey and Lyleigh. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His friends and family will continue to carry on his legacy through the memories of him and through the stories he’s told.
He was welcomed with open arms by his Mother and Father, Lyllus and Bud, beloved dog Cujie, special friend Merna, Brother Jerry, as well as other family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved little Sister Debbie, who was his caretaker for 34 years along with his Brother-in-law and best friend Vinny; Brother-in-law Larry, his Sisters, Janice Rantanen and Carol (Bob) Seidl; Son, Jason (Jessica) Winans; Grandchildren, whom he adored, Nova, Rayne, and Bryan; Niece Tracey Bostedt; Nephews Adam Bostedt, Nick (Lacey) Trensch, along with other Nieces and Nephews; Great Nieces, Brittany (Ben) Walczyk and Kailey Brennan, whom he also adored; Great Great Niece Lyleigh who brought so much light into his world, and his special friends, Big Steve, Tammy, Barb, George, and June.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 10 AM to 12 Noon Saturday, August 21, 2021. Memorial services will be conducted 12 Noon Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Fredrick Schulz officiating. Military Rites will be performed after the service at the funeral home.
