Russell L. Madson, 77, of Oconto, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Russell was born August 17, 1938 in Spruce, to the late Olaf and Ingeborg (Lundquist) Madson. Russell married Natalie Schmolinske on August 19, 1961. The couple farmed in Little River for many years. He graduated from Lena High School in 1956 and entered the military. Russell served in the US Air Force in S. Carolina and Japan until 1960. A member of the Little River Volunteer Fire Department for over fifty years, serving as Chief for thirty five years. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Grover, and served on the church council and member of the mens club.
Russell is survived by his wife, Natalie Madson, Oconto; three children, Mark (Cindy) Madson, Oconto; Paul “Porker” (Gail) Madson, Lena; Lori (Scott) Earley, Oconto; sister-in-law, Ruby Madson, CO; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Madson and sister, Elaine (Arlin) Stamsta; and step granddaughter, Stefanie Kanack.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Friday, August 5, 2016. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 AM Saturday, August 6, 2016 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Grover. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Saturday at the church with the Rev. Charles Learman officiating. Military Rites by Oconto American Legion Post #74. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
