Robert William Henry, 91, of 214 Collins Avenue, passed away at his home October 10th, 2012 at 10:00 PM. Robert was born on June 6, 1921 in Escanaba, Michigan to the late John Henry and Anna Bergman Henry. He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1938 and won a scholarship for football to the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He met and married Betty Youngs, while still in college, on September 26, 1943. He taught math in lower Michigan for five years. He came back to Oconto with his wife and children, Mernalee and John, where he owned and operated B&B Grocery, at 214 Collins Avenue, his home residence, but returned to teaching math at Oconto High School 5 years later. In addition to teaching math, he was active in sports, coaching football and basketball, later becoming the athletic director for all sports at Oconto High School. He retired after 33 years, 28 of them in the Oconto district. He is survived by his 3 children, Mernalee Henry Matson (James), Washington, NC; John Henry (Anna), Green Bay, WI; and Ted Henry, Oconto, WI; 3 grandchildren Robert E. Matson, Jennifer (Randle) Henry Westein, and Robert (Julie) Henry. In addition, he has 2 great-grandchildren Olivia Henry and Ireland Grey Westein. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Anna Bergman Henry; his wife, Betty; one brother, Theodore; and 2 sisters, Mary Jane Henry and Ruth LaFave. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Monday, October 15, 2012. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, October 16 from 9 to 10 AM. Funeral services will be conducted 10 AM Tuesday at the funeral home with Chaplain Bob Nooker officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
