Robert “Bob” Laabs, 90, of Lt. Suamico, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Unity Hospice surrounded by family and friends. Bob was born July 17, 1931 in Little Suamico to the late Carl and Mary (Prodell) Laabs. He married Phyllis Housner, who preceded him in death in 1998. Bob was a lifelong resident of Little Suamico, residing on a portion of what had been the family farm. He attended Cottonwood School, worked for Asa Foster Construction and retired from Northwest Engineering. He was known to be an excellent welder and would perform equipment repairs for his neighbors and friends. Bob was most comfortable as the guy who was doing for others; mowing many lawns, field work, and many dogs would say he had the best doggie hotel around. His true passions were fishing and hunting. Especially lake trout and salmon fishing in Lake Michigan and perch fishing in Green Bay. He cooked a killer fish fry and trout boil, there is no better perch fry than one where Bob was the host. He loved hunting with hounds (coyote, fox and bear) and had many hounds over the years. He enjoyed his Saturday morning 6 AM get togethers with brothers, son, grandson, and nephew. He always made sure to have fresh home made pie, cake or sweet rolls. He also enjoyed his Sunday mornings with his best friend and fishing buddy, Annie Wittlinger. He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard.
Bob is survived by a son, Jim (Rita) Gatz; sister, Sharon Phillips; three brothers, Donald (Betty) Laabs, Cletus (Evelyn) Laabs, Roy (Carol)Laabs; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and many friends. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and brother-in-law, Jay Phillips.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Burial will in the spring at Brookside Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
