each stage of the grieving process.
Robert C. Campbell, 89, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 27, 2015 after suffering from a series of hemorrhagic strokes. Bob was born to the late Lester and Hazel (Wright) Campbell on March 31, 1926 at his parent’s home in Oconto, WI. He graduated from Oconto High School in 1944 and served in the US Navy for 2 years. Highlights of his naval career were being in the crow’s nest of the battleship USS South Dakota for sea trials and liberating the confiscated booze in the naval post office on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay during VJ day in August of 1945. Another highlight for dad was an emotional trip to Washington, D.C. with the Honor Flight.Dad graduated from Lawrence University in 1950 with majors in economics and geology. He married the love of his life, Beverly Carol Caldwell on September 4, 1950. He attended the University of Illinois for 2 years working toward his Master’s degree in Geology. Dad worked as the loan officer at the Peshtigo State Bank before relocating to the First National Bank of Oconto in 1972. Mom and dad moved to Oconto in 1976 where they maintained their residence. Dad sold advertising specialty products to many local businesses over the years and continued to do so up until the time of his strokes in early September.
Dad was an avid bicyclist and continued to ride hundreds of miles a year right through the summer of his 88th birthday. He enjoyed working out and taking care of himself so he could live to be 110 (you almost made it dad; you only had 20 years to go!!). Dad was also an avid gardener and was extremely proud of his geraniums and begonia’s. Dad and mom loved to travel and had friends all over the United States that they stayed in touch with right until the ends of their lives.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years. He is survived by his children Robb (Jody) Campbell, Rincon, GA, Curt (Amy Jo) Campbell, Egg Harbor, WI, and Amy (Mike) Loehlein, Oconto WI. Dad is further survived by his 7 grandchildren, Robert (Marisol) Campbell, Madison, WI, Andrew (Yecenia) Campbell (Kileen, Texas), John (Megan) Campbell, Rochester, MN, Jackie (Brendan) Horgan, Atlanta, GA, Jamie (Craig) Molitor, Fond du Lac, WI, Tyler (Jen) Loehlein, Woden, IA, and Lauren (Scott) Bancroft, Oconto, WI. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Tatiana Campbell, Gabriel Campbell, Emma Molitor, and step-grandchildren Luis Santiago and Lydia Pierce. Dad’s legacy will continue to grow with the upcoming birth of another great grandchild, Baby Bancroft, in April.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Monday, November 30, 2015 with a Masonic service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 10 to 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery with Military Rites by Oconto American Legion Post. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
