Obituary for Richard A. Stein

Richard “Chunky” Stein died December 8 at his home from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. He was born October 7, 1943 to the late Alfred and Muriel (McDonald) Stein. He lived his early years in Lena and moved to Oconto Falls where he graduated in 1961. At 17, he joined the Navy and served until his discharge in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Zima, on May 7, 1966 in the Abrams United Methodist church. Dick worked for 35 years at Fort Howard Paper Company in Green Bay, retiring in 2000. Throughout his working years and during retirement, Dick greatly enjoyed the outdoors including hunting out west and here in Wisconsin, gardening, and walking every day. He spent time traveling with Kathy and friends to places around the country and world including Kenya, Panama, Iceland, Canada, Mexico, Alaska and most states west of the Mississippi River. In his retirement years he also spent much of his time in his wood shop meticulously working on projects. He loved to watch his grandchildren in all their various sports and activities, attending their events as much as possible. Whenever the girls asked dad, can you fix this, make this or do this, the answer was always “yes”.
Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy; daughters, Sara (Jerry) Arndt, Deanne (Brennan) Wyatt; and was the proud grandfather to Jayden, Jake, Max and Zoe. Also survived by brother, Don (Jan) Stein and sister, Marcia (Ted) Thronson.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, December 12, 2020. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Fredrick Schulz officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery with Military Rites. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given.
