Mary Lynn (Mai) Gilbert, 57, was born April 19, 1954 in Eau Claire, WI to Wally and Mildred (French) Mai. She passed away in the loving arms of her husband and daughter at her home on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Mary loved Jesus so much and was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior to eternal paradise. Mary graduated form Memorial High School in Eau Claire in 1972 and attended Chippewa Valley Technical College for Medical Records. She married her love and best friend, Brad in November of 1977. They were blessed with their only daughter, Sarah Mai in February of 1979. A loving wife and mother, Mary had a gentle way about her that children yearned for. She babysat many children over the years and provided all the love and care as though they were her own. They moved to Oconto in 1990. Mary worked for fifteen years in various positions with the school district including library aid, student services, and health room aid. Grown children often would stop and thank her for her kindness during trying times from sore tummies to cuts and bruises. After the birth of her only and beloved grandson, Jacob Bradford, she retired from the school and watched him. The special bond they had will be forever cherished. Mary belonged to Oconto Gospel Chapel where she volunteered with the nursery and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary for many years. Mary is survived by her mother Mildred Mai, Eau Claire; husband William “Brad” Gilbert, Oconto; daughter Sarah (John) Mai Floyd, Oconto; and grandson Jacob Bradford Floyd. She is further survived by three sisters, Brad’s siblings, and their families all of the Eau Claire area: Gary & Cora Klawiter, Lois Mai, Russ & Jean Nemitz, Wallace & Susan O’Neill, Tom & Liz Gilbert, Mary Liz Gilbert, and Scott & Cathy Gilbert, as well as many wonderful nephews, nieces and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Wally Mai and in-laws Humphrey & Lois Gilbert. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Oconto Gospel Chapel, 251 Michigan Ave, from 3 - 6 PM Saturday, April 14, 21012. A homecoming celebration service will follow at 6 PM with the Rev. Peter Dorn officiating. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, is assisting the family.
