Obituary for Marion Elizabeth Olsen

Marion Elizabeth (Anheuser) Olsen, 101, of Oconto, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Woodland Village of Oconto, with family at her side. She was born December 18, 1912 in Green Bay to the late George and Anna (Wilhelm) Anheuser. In 1924 the family moved to Oconto. She graduated from Oconto High School in 1931. She and her sister, Charlotte went to New York City and attended beauty school and in 1935 they opened up a beauty shop on Main St. in Oconto until 1940 when they both opened beauty shops in their homes. On June 18, 1938, Marion married Norbert “Nubs” Olsen and they went on their honeymoon in a sailboat that Nubs built. They built their home on the Oconto River and Marion lived in the house until she was 100 years old. Her children had a big birthday party at the Presbyterian Church to celebrate her 100th birthday and had over 100 guests. Sue and the late David Cross helped the family plan her party and were always a great help to Marion. Marion was a member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for 20 years. She was also a den mother for Cub Scouts, and a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star and LAPM. Marion was also an artist who painted many oil paintings over the years with her painting group.

Marion is survived by son, Peter (Gloria) Olsen, San Diego and their children, Deonna (Albert) Calvillo, Debbie (Todd) Springer; daughter, Elizabeth Durfy, Green Bay and her children, Chris (Helen) Durfy and Sarah (Brian) Wesoloski; son, Paul (Terri) Olsen, Oconto and their children John and Peter Olsen; great grandchildren Emily and Nathan Wesoloski, Devon and Imogen Durfy, Mia, Marissa and Lucas Springer, Albert Calvillo Jr. She is also survived by her sister’s children, Brian (Karen) Toole, Char (Beaver) LaCombe, Roger (Karen) Toole and Iris Aronson. Marion was preceded in death by her husband Norbert “Nubs” Olsen in June of 1996, and sister, Charlotte (Henry) Toole.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, from 10 AM to 12 Noon Thursday, May 29, 2014. Memorial services will be conducted 12 Noon Thursday at the church with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.

A special thank you to Brian and Karen Toole for all the help they gave Marion and thank you to Marlene Zahn, Sue Cross, and Rev. Craig Alwin for checking in on her. Also a special thank you to Woodlands Village and Southerncare Hospice for taking such good care of Marion.
