Obituary for Marilyn Hartert

Marilyn Joyce Hartert (Nicklaus), 86, of Oconto, WI, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 3, 2021. Marilyn was born February 20, 1935 in Marinette, to the late Robert Carl Albert and Eleanor Lydia (Blom) Nicklaus. She married Norman L. ”Chic” Hartert on November 3, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2020. Marilyn and Chic lived in various places, including Marinette, WI; Oconto, WI; Hazelwood, MO; Danville IL; and Milwaukee, WI, as they raised their family. They finally moved back to Oconto in 1973 where they ran Hartert Northside Beverage for many years. Marilyn was the “rock” of the business as she managed the books, ordering, stocking and spending hours taking care of the many customers. After a fire in the business, she worked at Oconto Furniture for a couple years and then at Pamida-Shopko for several years. Marilyn was an avid bowler, where she participated in many tournaments. She also loved playing cards with family and girlfriends. Marilyn loved going for rides and taking trips on the road with Norman “Chic”. She enjoyed her plants and flowers, and always wanted to keep her bird and squirrel feeders full to gaze out her window to watch them throughout the day. She enjoyed sitting and rocking in her favorite chair watching her favorite shows on television. A few other loves of Marilyn were her books and reading, chocolate, and black licorice! And of course, she couldn’t get enough of her grand children and great-grandchildren! She would love their visits, long talks on the phone, and hearing all their stories. She always had a smile on her face and her own stories to tell.
Marilyn is survived by her sisters Shirley Jean (Nicklaus) Beauclaire, and Jean Ann (Nicklaus) Switala, brothers, Randall “Randy” Scott (Miriam) Nicklaus, and Robert “Bob” Carl (Judy) Nicklaus, her son David (Roberta) Hartert, daughters Diane (Nathan) Maynard, and Desiree (Steven) Rohde; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Zachary) Johnson, Nicholas (Brooke) Rohde, Rachel (Chris) Stelmar, Andrew Maynard, Ryan Rohde, Alex (Patricia) Hartert, Samantha Rohde, and Luke Hartert; and eleven great grandchildren, Joseiha, Malachi, Abel, Elizabeth, Thaddeus, Thomas, Cecelia, Dante, Maximiliano, Nicolas, and Leonardo; and nephews and nieces.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Memorial services will be conducted 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. Burial will be at Oconto Catholic Cemetery.
