Lorraine Marie Bridger, age 87, died October 11, 2010 at Woodland Village Nursing Center in Oconto, WI.. Born August 31, 1923 in Oconto, Lorraine was the third of sixteen children born to Raymond and Evelyn (Shallow) Bridger. Lorraine never married but spent most of her life caring for others. She had just finished high school when her mother died. Lorraine stayed at home, worked at the Oconto Egg Plant and later the Kriewalt Glove Company, and took care of her younger brothers and sisters until they grew up and left home. She then worked as a house mother for troubled children at the state school in Union Grove, WI, then at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic school in Milwaukee, and later at Our Lady of Charity School in Green Bay. She retired to Oconto but continued to care for elderly people in their homes until she was eighty years old. She was a volunteer driver for the Oconto County Commission on Aging, driving people much younger than her to doctor appointments in other cities. She was always willing to help others in anyway she could.
Lorraine is survived by two sisters; Mrs. Patricia Wedde, San Jose, CA and Mrs. Shirley Ratzman, New Berlin, WI, and by two brothers; Clyde (Arlene) Bridger, Oconto and James Bridger, Marathon, FL, as well as an aunt, (Mary Pecha, Oconto) an uncle (Peter Shallow, Peshtigo), many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by brothers: Maynard, Donald, Leo, Robert and Gene, and by sisters Muriel Bridger, Ilene Albright, Lois Biron, Carol Cotter and Jean Bridger.
