Obituary for Laurence Smith

Laurence ?Gundy? Smith, 91, passed away at Becker-Shoop Center, in Racine, Wisconsin, on April 14, 2006, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer?s Disease. He was born January 25, 1915 in Oconto to the late Frank and Eva (Barry) Smith. He attended school in Oconto and graduated from Oconto High School in 1933. Laurence served in the United States Army during World War II. On April 25, 1942, he was united in marriage to Frieda Hartman, in Oconto. Laurence worked for Scott Pater Co. in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin for 26 years, retiring in 1977. Mr. Smith was a lifelong member of St. Peter?s Catholic Church in Oconto. Laurence is survived by his wife, Frieda, his son William (Jane) Smith, his two grandchildren, Tim Smith and Paula Buhler, three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Hannah and Sydney, all of Racine; one brother Wilson (Marion) Smith, FL; he is further survived by many friends. In addition to his parents, Laurence was preceded in death by a sister, Yolaine Hansen and brother Ray Smith. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, April 18, 2006 with prayer services at 7 PM by Deacon Walter Kaszynski. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. David C. Ruby officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. On line condolences may be expressed at Memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Mr. Smith?s family would like to thank the staff at Becker-Shoop for their years of tender care for their father.
