LaVonne Brazeau, born to the late Ernest and Ellen (Dagen) Bourassa June 2, 1931, died at the age of 87 on August 5, 2018. She married Joseph Brazeau May 30, 1952 and was married 34 years until his passing on September 27, 1986. They owned Brazeau & Son, located on Brazeau Ave., Oconto, WI, a family owned grocery store for 125 years. She had also been employed by Riverside Nursing Home (known as Woodland Villages) and for the City of Oconto during each election. She volunteered at Woodland Village Nursing Home, Country House and Bayshore Pines (Sun Valley). She was active in Oconto Hospital Auxiliary and St. Anne’s Society for over 40 years, and a member of a group of friends who began meeting 65+ years ago as a sewing club.
She is survived by 7 children, 13 grandchildren and spouses, and 29 great-grandchildren. Children: Steve Brazeau and friend Laura Burke, Oconto; Nancy Zubko, Oconto; Joyce Gerdes & friend Mike Fair, Oconto; & Casa Grande, AZ; Janice Lange (Mark) Siletchnik, Oconto & Tucson, AZ; Michael Brazeau, Green Bay; Frank Brazeau, Oconto; and Carol Ghonsuli, Green Bay. Grandchildren: Steve: Bobbi Jo (Tom) Christopherson, Brenda (Sam) Walkowiak. Nancy: Ellen Phelps & friend Steve Dezelan, Natacha (Mike) Gromoske, Amanda Zubko & friend Damian Weissberger. Joyce: Gilberto (Christina) Guidi-Italy. Janice: Erv (Christa) Lange. Frank: Luke (Nichole)Semrau, Brooke (Andy) Starks, Bailee Hunter, Justin (Meg) Bachelor, Denise (James) Lundquist, Amber Bachelor. She is also survived by 3 sisters: Marcella “Sally” White, Manitowoc, Mary Slempkes, Lena, Jane (Gary) Belongia, Oconto, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Brazeau, special friend, Herbert Loberger, father and mother-in-law, Louis (Elizabeth) Brazeau, sister, Delores “Ditty” Bourassa, sister, Kathryn (Harry) Froelich, brother, John “Jack or Peasoup” Bourassa and his wife Frances (Brazeau) Bourassa, sister-in-law Bernadette “Bea” (Donald) Netzer and brother-in-law Edward Slempkes.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Thursday, August 16, 2018. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will be at Oconto Catholic Cemetery.
