Obituary for Judith A. Scanlan

Judith “Judy” A. Scanlan, 71, of Oconto, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Unity Hospice Residence, DePere. Judy was born June 7, 1941 to the late William and Ethel (Werth) Finger. Judy and John “Patrick” Scanlan were married on January 3, 1959 and were married for 53 years. They met at the ages of 15 and 18 at a high school dance and were together ever since. Judy was a member of the First American Lutheran Church and was baptized, confirmed and married there. As she was growing up she lived in the house behind the church. She sang in the choir for many years, taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, a member of Sarah Circle and worked at church dinners and funerals. She belonged to the Oconto Golf Club Ladies League for many years and the Oconto Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Judy dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended their school and other events. Judy enjoyed playing golf, walking, reading and she and Pat loved spending their winters in Naples, FL. Judy is survived by her husband Pat Scanlan, Oconto; three children Richard “Rick” (Carol) Scanlan, DePere; Patti (Mark) Hansen, DePere; Thomas (Christina) Scanlan, Sobieski; nine grandchildren Jennifer Frewerd, Jaimee Martin, Kaila Scanlan, Ryan Scanlan, Riley Scanlan, Caitlyn Scanlan, Courtney Scanlan, Jonathon Hansen, Rachael Hansen; four great-grandchildren Alyssa Frewerd, Alleynah Frewerd, Cayden Martin, Graedy Martin; a sister, Marilyn Hanson, Oconto; a brother Eugene “Mike” (Gerri) Finger, Oconto; a sister-in-law Alleen Finger and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Finger and Charles (Jeanne) Finger. The family will receive relatives and friends at the First American Lutheran Church, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Friday, September 21, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday at the church with the Rev. Mary Zupansic officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net. The family would like to extend their special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Oconto Bellin Hospital, Bellin Hospital of Green Bay and Bellin Cancer Team and Unity Hospice staff of Marinette. Also a special thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice Residence of DePere for all their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given.
