Obituary for John E. Dumke

John Dumke lost his courageous battle with Leukemia on Saturday, March 30th at home with his loving wife Sue & sister-in-law Janey by his side. John was born August 21, 1951 to Leo & Carroll (Ihde) Dumke of County Line. John was married to his sweetheart Susan Wasurick on June 5, 1976 and also resided in County Line until the time of his death. Aside from spending time with family & friends, John loved working on tractors & farm equipment. John began working for his father right out of high school at Dumke Farm Supply. In 1981 John & his brother Richard went into partnership & purchased the business from their parents and renamed it Dumke Brothers Farm Equipment Sales & Service where he worked with Richard & his wife Sue until the time of his illness. John always said that he never considered their customers as customers, rather they were all friends. John was a proud member of the Oconto Elks Lodge #887. This organization was very dear to his heart & John was Elk of the Year for his Lodge in 2011 & shared that honor with his brother Rich in 2007. He always enjoyed grilling steaks for their golf outings, flipping pancakes for their pancake breakfasts & working the Elks tents during Copperfest & the fishing derbies. The one event he most enjoyed helping out at was the yearly Venison Stew Dinner. John had many interests & loved the outdoors. In the summertime he loved golfing with his golf buddies & his friend Dennis Shufelt and his nephew Ryan Earley. He also loved fishing & especially looked forward to their yearly family & friends camping trip at Shakey Lakes in Michigan where he could fish with his nephew Dan Mills from Indianapolis. John also enjoyed deer hunting on his friend Kent's property. John often served as the grill master at family gatherings and he loved gardening and mowing the lawn. John was a life long bowler and enjoyed playing cards with the guys after league each week. He was an avid Packer fan & they enjoyed getting together at Janey's to cheer on their team. John also enjoyed watching shows about Alaska & dreamed to go there one day. One of John's most favorite hobbies was making maple syrup each spring with his brother Rich & other family members. Mrs. Butterworth couldn't compete with the Dumke's maple syrup. Survivors include John's wife Sue, his parents Leo & Carroll Dumke, a brother Richard (Wendy) Dumke of Oconto, a sister Sandy (Vic) Heitzkey of Green Bay, a sister Barb (Jim) Shufelt of Oconto & a sister Darlene (Paul) Meagher of Fremont, a sister-in-law Mary Mills of Indianapolis, a sister-in-law Judy (Ken) LaFortune of Oconto, brother-in-law Jim (Dede) Wasurick of Green Bay, Donna Bushmaker of Oconto & special sister-in-law Janey Belongia of Oconto. John has many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews who will miss him terribly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, August & Thersa Dumke and John & Lillie Ihde, his father and mother-in-law Alvin and Ruby (Reed) Wasurick Sr., three brothers-in-law Alvin Wasurick Jr., Roger Wasurick & Rocky Mills, and two sisters-in-law Jean Belland & Elizabeth (Betty) Wasurick. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 9 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2013 with an Elks service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, April 4 from 10 to 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Thursday at the church with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given.
