In loving memory of Johan Harder, who peacefully went to meet his Maker on July 15, 2022 around 2 p.m., at the age of 72 years and 22 days. For a number of years he was battling emphysema and the last year and 10 months he also had heart issues to deal with. It is believed he died of a hemorrhaging stroke.
Johan was the first child of Johan and Katharina (Falk) Harder, born on June 23, 1950 in Chihuahua, Mexico. In the summer of 1969, he was baptized upon confession of faith by Bishop Abram Friesen of the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in Gonzales, Tamaulipas. That same year on November 25, he and Eva Penner were united in matrimony. They were married 52 years, 7 months, and 20 days. During this time God blessed them with 13 children: 10 girls and 3 boys.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Eva Harder (nee Penner); children: Esther and Gary Hoover of Gooding, ID, Bertha and Stephen Lauver of Liverpool, PA, Emmy and Stephen Brubaker of Oconto, WI, Willy and Rhoda (Halteman) Harder of Mt. Sterling, KY, Neal (of Niagara Falls, ON) and Shannon (Morse) Harder of Attica, NY, Elizabeth and Jesse Lauver of Barto, PA, Helen and Willy Bergen of Delhi, ON, Judy and Timothy Hartzler of Vest, KY, Eva and Jesse Amstutz of Oconto, WI; sons-in-law: Noah Mack of Barto, PA, and Paul Gascho of Delhi, ON; 60 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters and 2 brothers, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Johan was preceded in death by both of his parents, one sister, one brother, three daughters, one son, and three grandchildren.
The viewing will be held at the St. Anne’s Parish Hall, 221 East Main St., Lena, WI on Wednesday, July 20, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be at the same location on Thursday, July 21 at 10 a.m. with internment at the Lena Mennonite Church cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagheruneralhome.net.
“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his” (Hebrews 4:9-10).
