Obituary for Jeanne A. Stranz
Jeanne Alice Sturzl Stranz went home to her Lord on June 8, 2011 after a long, brave battle with renal cell cancer. Jeanne was born on the first day of Spring, March 21, 1930 to Frank Robert and Alice Laura (Gruman) Sturzl in Laona, Wisconsin. The family lived in Laona until moving to Crandon in 1934. Jeanne helped her mother in the kitchen at the Forest County Jail while her father was undersheriff and sheriff. The family later lived across from Lake Metonga and Jeanne was able to enjoy her love of water, swimming and water skiing. Jeanne was Valedictorian of the Crandon High School Class of 1948. She attended the College of St. Theresa in Winona, Minnesota for business related classes. After college Jeanne moved to Madison, Wisconsin to work for an insurance company. She married Allan Stranz, Jr. On October 5, 1950 in Madison. Upon Allans graduation from UW-Madison School of Pharmacy, the family lived in Badger Village, Tomahawk and Racine before moving to Oconto. While helping Allan at Stranz Drug Store and raising seven children, there was never a dull moment in her life. She also did respite care and worked as a school secretary. Jeanne was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, coin and stamp collecting, quilling, painting, anything creative and crafty. Jeannes artwork is proudly displayed in many homes. Jeanne gladly helped out with the Band Parents, Afterglow, church dinners, PTA, 4-H, and anything that was asked of her. Jeanne and Allan owned a Christmas Tree Farm and spent countless hours planting, pruning and harvesting Christmas trees. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and Forest County Historical Society, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crandon and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto.
Jeanne and Allan sold Stranz Drug Store in 1979 and took a brief retirement before moving back to Crandon. While living there Jeanne did respite care and worked part time at the UW Extension Office. She volunteered at the museum in Crandon and was very interested in both her family history and that of the area she grew up in. Allan and Jeanne continued their trips to the tree farm, were members of the Tree Farmer Association, and earned \"Tree Farmer of the Year\" awards. Jeanne particularly cherished time she spent with her niece, Lisa VanCleve and the Gravitter children. In 2007, when health issues arose, Jeanne and Allan moved back to Oconto to be closer to their children.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Allan; children, Allan III (Jan) Stranz of Abrams; John (Lois) Stranz of Plymouth; Shelley (Jeff) Zahm, of Oconto; Steve (Gail) Stranz of Suamico; and Karen (Ken) Behnke of Oconto; son-in-law, David Wagner of Grafton.
