Obituary for Jeanette L. Skaggs-Schroeder

Jeanette LaVerne Skaggs Schroeder, 75, Oconto, WI passed away Sunday, February 7th, 2010. She was born on March 7th, 1934 in Stiles Junction, WI at the family farm of her late parents, Arthur and Mina (Danielson) Olson. Jeanette graduated from Lena High School and shortly after moved to San Francisco, CA where she met her first husband, Donald Skaggs. After various moves to Ohio and Pennsylvania, she and Don, along with their three children, settled in Oconto, WI in 1965. This began her extreme love of the city of Oconto and various organizations including The Historical Society and Womens Club. She was recently honored by both clubs for her many years of service. An active member of the Oconto Gospel Chapel, Jeanette loved Jesus and served on many committees. In 2002, Jeanette married Bradley Schroeder and they enjoyed doing some traveling, including a trip to Alaska to see friends. Brad and Jeanette hosted many dinners and get togethers in their Oconto home. She was an employee of Gallagher Funeral Home since 1994 and greatly enjoyed helping through cleaning and serving as a greeter. Jeanette had a great fondness for animals and took pleasure in feeding many birds, small animals and deer outside her home. A lover of life, Jeanette was always looking for a way to help other people as evidenced by the many AFS foreign exchange students and foster kids who lived in her home through the years.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Bradley Schroeder, her three children Mike (Mary) Skaggs, Oconto; Michele (Ray) Olson, Green Bay; Mina (Bob) Sergenian, Madison. Jeanette is also survived by nine grandchildren and their spouses Amy (Eric) Peterson, Michael (Tiffany) Skaggs, Kyle (Amber) Skaggs, Becky Skaggs (fianc Adam Smrcina), Benjamin (Sara) Olson, Molly Olson, Rob Sergenian, Joe Sergenian (fianc Katlyn Coyle) and Kait Sergenian. She is also survived by foster daughter Patty (Chris) Volk and their daughter Katilyn and foster son Billy Crowder and his friend Danielle and daughter Gabriel and foster granddaughters Erin and Heather, and her much loved six great grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Lorraine Olson along with nieces and nephews and her Australian daughter Cheryl (Stuart) Scott. She was preceded in death by a grandson Joel Olson and a foster child Star Skaggs-Saubeo.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Oconto Gospel Chapel, 251 Michigan Avenue, Oconto, from 10 AM to 12 Noon Thursday, February 11, 2010.
