Obituary for James Robert Benson

James Robert Benson, 90, of Oconto, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Country House, in Oconto. Jim was born February 21, 1918 in Bark River, MI to the late James and Ellen (Johnson) Benson. Jim married Iva Olson on May 18, 1940. She preceded him in death on April 26, 1955. Jim married Margretta Bond on September 25, 1980. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2006. Jim worked as a Linotype Operator for 43 years, 25 of them were with the Green Bay Press Gazette. Jim was a Green Bay Packers season ticket holder for over 50 years. Jim was a member of Oconto Pine Lodge#188 F.&A.M., Oconto County Shrine Club, Beja Shrine Club, Green Bay, and the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto.
Jim is survived by two sons Jim (Gail) Benson, Bettendorf, IA; Pete (Sandy) Benson, Kaukauna; a son-in-law Clarence \"Deets\" Aland, Oconto; four step-sons Douglas Bond, Venice, FL; Gary (Cheryl) Bond, McKinney, TX; Robert (Mary) Bond, Riverton, UT; Kenneth (Lynn) Bond, Green Bay; two sisters Lydia Ryan and Alice Kartheiser both of Menominee, MI; twenty grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was preceded in death by a daughter Lola Ann Aland, brother Robert Johnson, and sister Marion Jopek.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Sunday, September 14, 2008 with Masonic services by Pine Lodge #188 at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday September 15 from 10 to 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Monday at the church with Rev. Frederik Schulz officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. On line condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
A special thank you to the staff at Country House, Oconto, and Unity Hospice for their care and compassion.
