James L. Miller, 88, of Oconto, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Atrium Nursing Home, Oconto Falls. James was born February 7, 1928 in Green Bay to the late James and Mayme (Livermore) Toule. He married Stella Faye Topel on July 30, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 8, 1998. James served his Country in the US Marine Corps. He worked as a commercial fisherman on the Great Lakes, as a Mill Wright for Fort Howard Paper Co. for thirty years, and as Captain of the Jungle Queen Tour Boat in Fort Lauderdale, FL. James was instrumental in starting Bread by the Bay food pantry. He was an amazing father and grandfather. James was a member of Oconto United Methodist Church and AMVETS.
James is survived by two sons, Jim (Sue) Miller, Green Bay; Scott (Holly) Miller, DePere; daughter, Mary (Rick) Fumelle, Green Bay; seven grandchildren, Christy (Jeff ) Senger, Bridget (Thomas) Miller, Heidi (Craig) Suhrke, Bill (Kelsie) Fumelle, Sawyer Fumelle, Abbey Miller, Hannah Miller; two great grandchildren, Ricky Miller and Sebastian Suhrke; special friend, Jeanie Swaer. He was preceded in death by his father, James Toule; mother, Mayme (Charles) Miller; father and mother-in-law, Gordon and Mary Topel; and fiancee, Helen Pillsbury.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, December 28, from 10 to 11 AM at United Methodist Church, Oconto. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Wednesday at the church with Rev. Dave Henke and Rev. Frederik Schulz officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery with Military Rites by all Oconto Veterans service Organizations.
