Obituary for Irene Rose Mahon

Irene Rose Mahon, 89, died peacefully Sunday, April 11, 2010 with her family at her side at Woodlands of Oconto. Irene was born February 6, 1921 . She is the daughter of Walter and Marcella Misiak and married Raymond F. Mahon on October 29, 1938 in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1987. In 1951 they purchased Four Corners Tap west of Oconto and ran this business for ten years, where she was known for her 35 cent fish fries and chicken dinners on Saturday night. They returned to Milwaukee in 1961 and moved back to Oconto upon retirement. Irene was a devoted member of the American LEGION Auxiliary Post #74 where she was Chaplain for many years. She loved the annual Poppy Drive volunteering many hours to this cause. She loved to sew, cook, and go to rummage sales. Irene was devoted to her family and was always there when her family needed her. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Oconto.

Irene is survived by her three children Patricia (Edward) Sherman, Oconto; Michael (Deborah) Mahon, Milwaukee; Jeanne (John) Strublic, Wautoma. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Robert (Lisa) Sherman, Rick (Danielle) Sherman, Julie (Pete) DePouw, all of Oconto; Ann (Mike) Quarne, Belgium, Jennifer Mahon, South Milwaukee; James Mahon, Sheboygan; Steven (Julia) Strublic, Peoria ,AZ; and Anthony Strublic, Marinette. Irene was also blessed with eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson Randy Sherman.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, from 10 AM to 12 Noon Wednesday, April 14, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 12 Noon Wednesday, April 14 at the church with the Rev. Patrick Beno officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at

The family wishes to thank the staff of Woodlands of Oconto for their dedication, compassion and loving care, especially wing 4 and all those who cared for her in her final days. We also thank them for their kindness and comfort to our family in our time of need. Further we would like to thank Unity Hospice for their care and concern for Irene and her family.

Some special thoughts and memories are meant for you alone, thoughts that bring quiet smiles for happy times weve known. Thoughts that cause a sigh or two, for all things weve shared. Thoughts that show so beautifully how much weve always cared. These memories are gifts of time to call our very own, recalled with warm affection that is meant for you alone.
