Obituary for Henrietta 'Etta' Couillard

Henrietta (Etta) Couillard of Oconto passed away on Tuesday morning, October 18th. Etta was born on December 8, 1916, in the Town of Oconto, daughter of Samuel and Harriett (Denissen) Young. Etta married Hugh “Duke” Couillard on May 29, 1936. She was a member of St. Joseph parish (currently Holy Trinity) her entire life. She was a member of the Catholic Woman’s Club, St. Ann’s Society, chairperson of funeral dinners, teacher at the St. Joseph School (3rd grade) for 14 years, a communion distributor, and served as the CCD coordinator for two years. She also taught in the public school system for two years and was a 50-year member of the Oconto County Home Makers. She was very active in town government for over 50 years, working with her father as assessor, her husband Hugh as town clerk, and personally served as deputy clerk, clerk, and supervisor on the Elections Board. Besides being a farm wife, mother and teacher, she had the reputation of being a care giver to elderly and handicapped individuals. She is survived by a son-in-law, Thomas Kussow (Lois); four grandchildren, Daniel (Lisa) Kussow, Patricia Fusco, Michael (Ann) Kussow, and Matthew (Michelle) Kussow; ten great-grandchildren, Justin (Krystal), Brandon, Camille, Annika, Ariana, Katarina, Michael Thomas, Brett, Benjamin and Samuel; one brother, Allen (Genevieve); one sister, Patricia Mathey; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Young and Helen Young; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh “Duke” Couillard; her daughter, Beverly Kussow; one sister, Mae Koehne; six brothers, Ted, Harry, Tom, Bob, Bernard and Gordon Young; both parents; and one great-grandchild, Michael Guy Kussow. The family will receive relatives and friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Friday, October 21, 2011. Mass of Christian burial will be Celebrated 11 AM Friday at the church with Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will be at Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net. In lieu of flowers memorials made be given to Holy Trinity Parish.
