GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Helen (Honey) Schroder, age 99, passed into eternal life March 26, 2021. She was born Helen Ada Olson to John and Ada (Telford) Olson in the town of Little River, 1922. When first learning to speak, “Helen” came out as “Honey” and the name stuck! Honey graduated from Oconto High School in 1939. Her first job was as secretary at the Heisinger Insurance Agency in Oconto. She then worked as a secretary at the Wisconsin Public Service office in Oconto from 1941 until 1949. She served as church secretary at First Presbyterian Church Oconto from 1967 to 1978.
In 1949 she married the love of her life, Ernest (Ernie) Schroder and they were married for nearly 67 years. They were parents of two sons, John Olaf and Norman Ernest. Since Ernie’s passing in 2016 she was able to continue to live in her home of 70 years thanks to the help of wonderful neighbors and friends. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, and a member and secretary of Woman’s Club and Priscilla Circle in that church. She was a den mother when John and Norm were in Cub Scouts. She was a committee member of every reunion of the Oconto High School class of 1939. She is believed to have been the last surviving member of that class of over 100 graduates. In their retirement years Ernie and Honey traveled from East to West Coast and from Alaska to Mexico. They enjoyed winters in Panama City Beach, Florida, and many happy summer weeks at Archibald Lake, Lakewood, Wisconsin. Family life was important to her and she had great pride in her family.
Survivors are her sons John (Jody) of Colgate, WI, and Norman (Barbara) of Pocatello, ID; grandchildren Jennifer (Rick) Alexander of Belgrade, MT; John-E of Denver, CO; Jannelle of Brookfield, WI; Julia of Colgate, WI; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She became a great grandmother to Justin Alexander in 2020. She was able to attend granddaughter Julia’s bridal shower March 13th and will be a loving presence at the wedding of Julia to Jacob Wittmershaus on May 1. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie; her parents; sister Elinore and brother-in-law Will Rugg; mother and father-in-law Maren and Olaf Schroder.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the First Presbyterian Church Oconto, from 10 AM to 12 Noon Saturday, April 3, 2021. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 12 Noon at the church with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. The services will be live streamed on First Presbyterian Church facebook page. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
