Obituary for Glenn R. Blum
Glenn R. Blum, 63, of Oconto, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Oconto Hospital & Medical Center. Glenn was born June 6, 1946 to Stanley (Olga) Blum and the late Genevieve (McHugh) Blum. Glenn married Barbara Green on March 29, 1986. Glenn received his Bachelors Degree from Carroll College, Waukesha, and his Masters Degree from Northern Illinois University. He taught Physical Education at the Oconto Elementary and Middle Schools for 34 years. Glenn coached Oconto High School and Middle School wrestling, High School track and football. After coaching, Glenn was a wrestling referee for many years. Glenns passions were golfing, cooking, camping and gardening. Glenn was inducted into the Carroll College (now Carroll University) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006 for football, wrestling, and track. In 2006 he was also inducted into the Burlington Athletic Wall of Fame. Glenn was a member of the Oconto Skiing Patriots for several years.
Glenn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto. Glenn served as church Elder, Deacon and Clerk of Session. He was also in the mens quartet, bell choir, and taught Sunday school for many years. Glenn organized the chicken pie supper for many years. Glenn filled the pulpit many times in NE Wisconsin. He was a member of the Gideons Ministry, and served as president of the local Oconto County Camp.
Glenn is survived by his wife Barbara Blum, Oconto; father Stanley (Olga) Blum, Lake Geneva; two daughters Courtney (Richard) VanBoxtel, Oneida; Erika Blum, Green Bay; three grandchildren Kayla, Brynn, and Tyler VanBoxtel, and mother-in-law Ronnie Green, Traverse City, MI. He was preceded in death by his mother Genevieve Blum and father-in-law Paul Green.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, June 10 from 10 to 11 AM at the church. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, June 10 at the church with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating.
