Obituary for Gerald Francis Morrell
Gerald Francis Morrell passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 10, 2016 while enjoying his routine outdoor activities. He was born on September 29, 1933 to Ernest and Lucille (Plude) Morrell in Oconto, Wisconsin. Following graduation from Oconto Senior High School in 1952, he entered the United States Air Force and served as a mechanic in Portland, Oregon and Germany. He returned to Oconto in 1957. Jerry enjoyed working for the American Archery Company during a time when sport bows were hand crafted from wood laminations. He acquired a passion for wood crafting and was well known for the beautiful home décor he created. He loved archery and taught those skills for many years. He married Kaye Lynn (Lamirande) on August 12, 1972 and they enjoyed 43 wonderful years together. You rarely saw one without the other. He was employed by Wisconsin Bell (Ameritech and Johnson Controls) and served for 35 years as a maintenance technician. Jerry traveled all over northeast Wisconsin during an era of major system technology and facility upgrades. In retirement Jerry enjoyed carpentry and traveling to steam tractor and engine shows. His interests included collecting antique lanterns and watching birds with his cat Tootsie. Jerry loved attending any sporting event…especially with his friend Virgil.
He is survived by his wife Kaye Lynn. Daughters - Susan (Jay) Rietz and Melissa Morrell. Sons - Richard (Sheri) Morrell, Michael (Brenda) Morrell and Jerry Morrell. Grandchildren - Kristen Rietz, Jennifer (Luke) Cortright, Austin Batterson and Alex Morrell, Great Grandchildren - Grace and Clara Cortright. Brothers – Kenneth (Joyce) and Ronald (Ruth) Morrell and one Sister, Carol Jean Alsteen.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Oconto. Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 AM Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Bruce Blocker officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery with Military Rites by Oconto American Legion Post #74. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
