Obituary for George Byng Jr.

George “Jim” Byng Jr., 89, Abrams, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Manorcare East, Green Bay. George was born February 23, 1926 in Abrams to the late George and Mary (Fox) Byng Sr. George married Nancy Rickel on June 23, 1953. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2011. George was a charter member of the Abrams Fire Department and the Oconto County D.A.V. He was active in the development of the Byng Community Theater. George enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved watching his grandson Nick compete in off road racing. George was a big Green Bay Packers fan and worked selling beer at City Stadium. George served his country in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Pitt. He was a member of St Maximilian Kolbe Parish Church, Sobieski and Machickanee Sportsman Club.

George is survived by a daughter, Becky (Richard) Wolf, Abrams; a son, Bruce (Mary Ellen) Byng, Abrams; three sisters, Judy (John) Bakran, Abrams; DeeDee (Tom) Halada, Seymour; June (Norb) Herr, Abrams; two grandchildren Nick (girlfriend, Jess Varner) Byng and Allison (fiancee, Josh Hager) Byng. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wally Byng, Sam Byng; and three sisters, Sally (Earl) Herr, Lillian (Doug) Ferdon and Charlotte (Jim) Machurick.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish Church, Sobieski, from 9 to 11 AM Monday, February 1, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Monday at the church with Fr. Gerald A. Prusakowski, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick cemetery, Stiles with Military Rites.
