Eleanor "Babe" Schumacher, 95, of Oconto, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Woodlands of Oconto. Eleanor was born April 3, 1914 in Green Bay to the late Elmer and Marie (Daul) Curran. She married Alois F. Schumacher in June of 1936. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1955. After her marriage, Babe and Al moved to Oconto and opened Schumacher Market in 1945. Babe continued to run the store after Alois passed away for 12 years. After leaving the store Babe continued to work for Telford Oil, Rolear Inc., and finally the Oconto Pharmacy until the age of 79. Babe truly loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed latch hook and reading. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto.
Babe is survived by two daughters Barbara Hollihan, Oconto; Lynn (James) Follett, Ashwaubenon; two sons James Schumacher, Suamico; Thomas Schumacher, The Villages, FL; ten grandchildren Tim Hollihan, Nancy (Mike) Gilles, Douglas (MaiSing) Follett, Tricia Welch, Randall (Daisy) Schumacher, Michele (Maury Cornelius) Schumacher, Steven Schumacher, Jane (Bill VanEss) Schumacher, Christopher Topel, Jenilyn (Jon) Viestenz, tw0 step-grandchildren Michelle Kreuser, Jodi Morgan, and fourteen great grandchildren Derek, Lexie, Danielle, Jeremy, Erin, Jordan, Taylor, Hannah, Elizabeth, Colin, Kelly, Halie, Alyse and Addison. She was preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen Topel, two sisters Henrietta Nowak, Esther Klika, a brother Hubert Curran, two daughters-in-law Jean Schumacher, Sue Schumacher and a son-in-law William Hollihan.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, form 4 to 8 PM Sunday, January 31, 2010 with prayer services by Deacon Walt Kaszynski at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11 AM Monday, February 1 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, with the Rev. Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given.
