Edward “Chum” J. Sherman Jr., 91, Oconto, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at his home. Chum was born July 15, 1927 in Oconto to the late Edward and Julia (LeBreck) Sherman Sr. He married his sweetheart Patricia Mahon on July 13, 1957 and were together over 61 years. Chum graduated from Oconto High School in 1945. He served his Country in the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Chum worked for Karcz Ford, Pulaski, Montgomery Ward store, Oconto, before entering into a twenty five year career in real estate with the Davis Agency. His outgoing personality and strong work ethic shaped his great salesmanship. As a member of Jones Modrow Young American Legion Post #74, he served as Past Commander and managed the Oconto Legion Golf Course. Chum enjoyed luxury cars, loved the City of Oconto, especially taking rides through town. A dedicated family man, spending time with family during the holidays was always important. Chum was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Chum is survived by his wife, Patricia Sherman; daughter, Julie (Pete) DePouw; two sons, Rob (Lisa) Sherman; Rick (Danielle) Sherman; eight grandchildren, Dash (Erica) Sherman-Thunder, Chelsea Sherman, Danielle and Brooklyn Sherman, Zachary and William Sherman, Ryan and Sara DePouw. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Sherman; three brothers, Roland, Harold, Bernard; and a sister, Marjorie Van Hefty.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Friday, December 21, 2018 with prayer services at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, December 22, from 9 to 11 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Military Rites by all Oconto Veteran organizations. Burial will be Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
