Douglas E. Allen, 92, of Little Suamico, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011 at Woodside Lutheran Home in Green Bay. Douglas was born August 17, 1918 in Little Suamico to the late John and Edna (De Maiffe) Allen. He married Bartley Reinhard on June 5, 1942. In 1939 Douglas entered the U.S. Army and served during WWII in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Douglas ran the family farm, Spring Brook Dairy Farm, for over 30 years. He was "Outstanding Young Dairy Farmer" for the state of Wisconsin in the late 1950\'s. He loved working and taking care of the land. In his retirement years he enjoyed making maple syrup. Douglas was a member of the American Legion Machickanee Post #523 and St. Pius Catholic Church in Little Suamico.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Bartley Allen, Little Suamico; son Douglas L. (Susan) Allen, Little Suamico; five daughters Christine (Robert Jr.) Walters, Oconto Falls; Lynn (Larry) VanHoof, Peshtigo; Jeanine (Richard) Kramer, Green Bay; Joy (Timothy) Hogan, Little Suamico; Penny (Lee) Helmle, Little Suamico; sister-in-law Marian Allen, Marinette; 20 grandchildren Douglas Allen Jr., Deanne (Dale) Baker, Sara (Todd) Holman, Robyn (Alan) Weber, Jacob (Mayme) Allen, Jessica (Joel) Delzer, Zachary Allen, Eric Walters, Ryan (Lisa) Walters, Sara (Al) Rosina, Heather (Christopher) Dennett, Dr. Jody (Eric) Langford, Lance VanHoof, Travis (Lindsay) Berg, Shannon (Mark) Gabriel, Chase Hogan, Chelsie Hogan, Cory Helmle, Courtney Helmle, Haylee Helmle and 20 great grandchildren. Douglas was preceded in death by his 6 brothers John, Willard, Alvin, Patrick, Malcolm and Dennis Allen.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, July 7, 2011. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 8 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at St. Pius Catholic Church, Little Suamico. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10 AM Friday at the church with the Rev. Gerald Prusakowski O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Post # 523.
