Donald Novak, 83, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at home and surrounded by his family after a courageous three year battle with lung disease. He was born July 23, 1928 to Rudolph and Clara (Hoverson) Novak in Green Bay. He graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1946. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed a lifelong career as an employee of Northwest Engineering Company, and especially enjoyed working for Pioneer Credit Union. Don was a lifelong resident of the Green Bay area until moving to Oconto 9 years ago. Don was deeply committed to his soul mate and wife of 25 years, Ruth. He truly loved and appreciated his family. His sons greatly loved and respected him. Don will be fondly remembered for the joy he found in cooking, for his stellar handyman skills, and for his loyalty to the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Novak; his three sons, David Novak (Patricia), Dale Novak (Kim), and Dan Novak; his step-daughter, Kelly Youland (Douglas); his grandchildren, Michaela and Aislinn Shimon, Clara Novak, Justin Novak, Stephanie Belanger (Paul), and Michelle Novak; his great-grandchildren, Alexis, Carlos, Adrian, Xavier, and Angelina Novak, and Sophia Belanger; and his sister, Jean Bedore. He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph “Rudy” and Clara (Hoverson) Novak, his sister Marie, and her husband Clarence Gilson. His in-laws Charles and Bernice Houck. Don’s family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the unforgettable support provided by friends and family during the past three years. Honoring Don’s last wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral. A special thank you goes to Unity Hospice for their dedicated and appreciated care.
