Obituary for Donald G. Kennin
Donald G. Kennin, 84, Howard, passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 at Brookview Meadows. Donald was born July 5, 1927 in Abrams to the late George and Agnes (Byng) Kennin. He married Beatrice Bain on March 17, 1951. Don and Beatrice lived in Milwaukee for forty two years before moving to Abrams. Don served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was on a destroyer during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He served 41 years and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy Reserves in Milwaukee, WI. Don was an avid hunter, and fisherman. He took fishing trips to Canada with his family for fifty years. Don was a member of Henry L. Palmer Freemason Lodge #301, Wauwatosa, and the Scottish Rite where he was raised, at the age of 80, to a 33 degree Mason. Don is survived by his wife of 60 years Beatrice Kennin, Green Bay; three daughters Debbie (Dan) Wijas, Abrams; Cheryl (Peter) Pokrzywinski, Chippewa Falls; Valerie (Mike) Carpenter, Milwaukee; a son Gregory (Regina) Kennin, Mequon; two sister Beverly Beatty, MI; Linda (Jerry) Jeager, Abrams; two sisters-in-law Stella Kennin, Abrams; Anita Kennin, CA; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers George and Dale Kennin, a sister Elaine Rovinski and a brother-in-law Bill Beatty. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Monday, September 26, 2011. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, September 27 from 10 to 11 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Morgan. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Paul Hykes officiating. Military Rites by the American Legion Post #74, Oconto, will be performed at the church.
