Obituary for Donald E. DeHut

Mr. Donald E. DeHut, age 91, of Oconto, went to be with the Lord on Fathers Day, June 20, 2010. Donald was born December 4, 1918 in Oconto to the late John and Louise (Cota) DeHut and was the second to youngest of 13 children. Into adulthood, Donald remained on the DeHut homestead and later married his wife, Jean L. Mayo on January 2, 1954. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2000. The couple raised a family of six children while managing a 190 acre dairy farm. Donald was known to many for his strong Christian faith, fine wood craftsmanship, ingenuity in mechanical design, love of gardening, and musical abilities. Donald often told the story of how he learned to play the harmonica from his mother at the age of 12. From that time on, Donald developed his musical talents all by ear. He played guitar, accordion, violin, jaw harp, and harmonica and shared his love of music with many. Neighbors and friends, near and far, sought out Donalds skill in creating, restoring, and repairing mechanical equipment and farm implements. His engineering abilities to develop and create innovative solutions to mechanical problems was outstanding.

Family was central to Donalds life. He is survived by his children Jody DeHut, Jayme (Barb) DeHut, Cindy (Michael) Bittner, Timothy (Cynde) DeHut, Lisa (Richard) Dworak, Jenny (Kenneth) Knipfer, 14 grandchildren Lyla, Donald, Ellen, April, Max, Rose, Kale, Tyler, Emily, John, Phillip, Katelyn, Kyle, Korbyn, and five great grandchildren Hannah, Mason, Christian, Zachary, and John. Also survived by three sisters Mabel Helmer, Mary Sief and Eleanor (Joe) Mraz. Donald is preceded in death by five brothers Lyle, George, Harry, Ray, Roy and four sisters Irene Ragen, Muriel Olson, Ruby Lasley and Louise Scharmann.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Oconto Gospel Chapel, Oconto, from 10 AM to 12 Noon Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted 12 Noon Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Kevin Kuhn officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery.
