Darwin "Bucko" George Ferris, 86, of Oconto, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010 at his home. Darwin was born August 10, 1923 in Little Suamico to the late George James and Sylvia Berthalene (Knudson) Ferris. He married Laverne Carriveau on August 9, 1947. Darwin owned and operated Darwin Electric for 40 years, retiring in 2003, at the age of 80. Darwin served in the US Army during WWII. He served in Europe for 2 years and was in five battle campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. Darwin was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto Elks, and American Legion Post #74.
Darwin is survived by his wife Laverne, Oconto; three daughters Debra (Scott) Krueger, Oconto; Julie Walsh, Green Bay; Kelly (friend Pat) Prosek, Pulaski; three sons Scott (Michelle) Ferris, Milwaukee; Bradly Ferris, FL; Shawn Ferris, Oconto; a brother James (Pat) Ferris, Green Bay; a sister Beverly Thomas, FL; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son Mark Ferris, two brothers Jeffrey Ferris, Elwin (Rose) Ferris two sisters Hope Orlando and Mary Ann LeBreck and a brother-in-law David Thomas.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 9 PM Thursday, January 7, 2010 with prayer services by Deacon Walter Kaszynski at 7 PM and Elks service at 7:20 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11 AM Friday, January 8 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, with the Rev. Patrick Beno officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery with military Rites by the American Legion Post #74. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagehrfuneralhome.net
