Charles Roger Rietz peacefully passed away on December 13th 2015 at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King, WI.Charles was born on November 9th, 1927, to Andrew and Clara (Saffran) Rietz. Following graduation from Oconto Senior High School, he entered the Army Air Corps and attended Radio Operators School at Scott Field. He served as a Control Tower Operator at Chanute Field in Rantoul Illinois. Following his AAC service he attended Marinette County Normal business school and joined his mother and father in the Rietz Motors car dealership. He married Audrey Krueger on June 21, 1952, and they had two sons; Jay and Mark.
Charles went on from Rietz Motors to own and operate the Automotive Products store. Following retirement he was always around boats, airplanes and computers. He was well known as one of Oconto’s “fly guys”. Charles enjoyed flying the L4 Piper Cub and Cessna 172s he and his Civil Air Patrol friends operated; and also flew the Grumman Cheetah while he and Audrey were wintering in Texas. Audrey and Charles enjoyed travel, and made many trips to his Air Corps alma mater, Scott AFB, to visit their “Air Force Brat” granddaughters. Charles was a member of Oconto’s Masonic Pine Lodge 188 for 62 years, served as Master of the lodge in 1960 and Secretary of the lodge for 17 years. Charles was a devoted member of the First American Lutheran Church, and later the First Presbyterian Church of Oconto.
Charles is survived by one son, Jay (Susan); one brother Roger (Marcia) Rietz and one sister Marilyn (Rietz) Dahl; two grandchildren, Kristen Rietz and Jennifer (Rietz) Cortright (Luke); two great-grandchildren, Grace and Clara Cortright; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Mark, wife Audrey.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, January 2, 2016. Masonic ceremonies will conducted at 11 AM, followed by a memorial service by Rev. Craig Alwin. Military Rites by Oconto American Legion Post #74
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are preferred.
