Betty J. Strutz, 86, of Oconto, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Woodlands Nursing Home, Oconto. Betty was born April 9, 1924 in Oconto to the late William and Emma (Vendt) Strutz. Betty worked at First National Bank of Oconto (now Citizens) for 35 years. She was a lifetime member of the Oconto Historical Society and served as a Grand Guide for tours at the Beyer Home Museum for over 20 years, and in 2008 she received an award for her 20 years of dedicated service. Betty also worked at the polling site down town Oconto for over 10 years. Betty acted and helped with several plays for the Machickanee Players. Betty was very active, she loved people and served as a volunteer at Woodlands of Oconto for reminiscing with Phiddy. She was a member of the First American Lutheran Church, Oconto, and also collected Roosters and Schnauzers.
Betty is survived by two nieces Brenda Metzler, Milwaukee; Diane (Richard) Dusso, Hendersonville, TN; a nephew Phillip Metzler; a cousin Marceil Schumacher, Oconto; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters Eunice Metzler and Helen Strutz and a brother William Strutz.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the First American Lutheran Church, Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, March 5, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Saturday at the church wit the Rev. Mary Zupansic officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. The Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, is assisting the family. On line condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
