Arthur William Delzer, 93, Abrams, passed away peacefully at home Friday morning October 28, 2016. He was born in Abrams to the late Julius and Minnie (Peters) Delzer. He attended grade school in Abrams. He proudly served in the Army during WWII with the 32nd Division in the European Theater. After the war he worked at Allis Chalmers in West Allis for a short time. He came back to Abrams and worked with his brother Ervin “Little Man” on the family farm. On August 19, 1950 he married Ruth Mae Brown at Windlake, WI . She preceded him in death after 63 years of marriage on August 21, 2013. Arthur owned and operated a logging and sawmill/planing mill, locally known as “The Woodpecker Sawmill.” He employed many people from the surrounding area who have many stories to tell. Upon retirement he couldn’t stay out of the woods and started a maple syrup operation involving family and friends. Arthur was a devoted member of Abrams Calvary Lutheran Church, the Machickanee Sportsmans Club, he raised the clubs pheasants for many years. He belonged to the Abrams VFD, NRA, DAV He was recipient of the Abrams Outstanding Citizens Award in 1981. Arthur enjoyed fishing, trapshooting, playing cards, gardening, and hunting , 59 years at the hunting camp in Glidden with family and friends. His family was his greatest joy. He loved it when his great-granddaughters helped him track deer.
Arthur is survived by one son, Ron (Lori) Delzer, Abrams; their children, Katie (Dallas) Hartman, Los Angeles, CA and Ryan Delzer, San Diego, CA. One daughter, Karen (Jim) Jahnke, Abrams; their children; Dawn (John) Havemeier and children, Ericka and Leanna, Jason (Aprille) Jahnke and children Allison and Erin; all from Abrams, Matthew (Marianna) Jahnke and Daughter, Sophie, Ames, IA; Joseph (Kersten) Jahnke, Krakow, WI; sister-in-law, Myrtle Bucholtz; brothers-in-law, Melvin Brown, Leslie (Edwina) Brown, Ralph (Sue) Brown, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna (Ed) Holewinski; brother, Ervin (Toots) Delzer; and brothers-in-law Robert Bucholtz, Roland (Barbara) Brown.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Monday, October 31, 2016. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Abrams. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Andrew DeGier officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery with Military Rites by Oconto American Legion Post #74. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
The family greatly appreciates all the help from family and friends. Without all of you, Dad would not have been able to stay at home as he wished. A special thank you to the staff from Unity who came and brightened his day. Everyone enjoyed hearing his stories, jokes and one-liners.
