GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Be the first to share your favorite memory, photo or story of Arthur. This memorial page is dedicated for family, friends and future generations to celebrate the life of their loved one.
We ask on behalf of the family that you keep your comments uplifting and appropriate to help all who come here to find comfort and healing.
Arthur "Boy" J. Gering Jr., 95, Oconto, was received in Heaven on January 11, 2011 after a brief stay at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay. Arthur was born on February 10, 1915 in Pensaukee to the late Arthur J. Gering Sr. and Hattie Topel. He married the former Mary Lois Mineau of Oconto and together raised six loving children whom he adored immensely.
In Arthurs younger years he worked directly with and for his father in the lumber camps of Northern Wisconsin near Lakewood. At age 15 he started a commercial fishing business which he continued to pursue and actively operate until the age of 80. During his various business ventures he also worked full-time for Cruisers Yachts as a supervisor until he retired at age 60. During his employment with the company mentioned, he also acted as Union President for 25 years, a rarity in that era. He involved himself in city council, planning commission agendas and local community affairs within the realm of knowledge he acquired. He involved himself in local community government as well as state capital issues. He was a well read man who spoke up on relevant issues that he strongly believed in. Art was interviewed throughout the course of his life by numerous journalists on his personal knowledge of past history in our beloved State of Wisconsin. In his later years, Art took great pride and pleasure in growing perfect raspberries, and was known to many in Oconto as the "Raspberry King." His memory was such that people from all walks of life and age groups marveled at the historic attention to detail stored in the unique mind of such a humble man.
His family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bellin 2nd floor Cardiatric Unit in Green Bay for the compassion, respect and loving care given by the doctors and nursing staff shown our beloved "father" during his brief stay.
He is survived by 5 loving children; David L. (Marilyn) Gering, Oconto, Cynthia A. Gering, Green Bay, Kathryn L. (Wayne) Vorpahl, Green Bay, William A. Gering, Oconto, Stephen R. (Nancy) Gering, Oconto. Also surviving him are 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and a very special companion in his life, Kooper, his Yorkshire Terrier. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lois Mineau, in 1999, and a son, Rodney Joseph Gering, of Rockford, IL in 2010, two sisters, Arlene and Dorothy and a brother Robert.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Friday, January 14, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11 AM Saturday, January 15 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery. On line condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
A special thank you from Arthurs children to all his wonderful compassionate neighbors, friends and acquaintances that our dear father cherished throughout his lifetime, who extended their time and expertise within this past year, when dad needed you most, while his health was failing.
God bless you always!
