Obituary for Anthony 'Tony' Mercier

Anthony “Tony” Louis Mercier, 102, of Oconto, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at Bellin Oconto Hospital. Tony was born July 22, 1910 in the Oconto to the late Phillip and Ethel (Lafortune) Mercier. He married Frances “Fanny” Helmer on April 25, 1932. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1958. Tony married Edna Thompson on July 10, 1959. She preceded him in death in March of 2001. Tony worked for the Holt Lumber Co. in the mill, and worked his way up to accountant. When Mr. Holt retired, Tony, moved to the Holt Hi-Lab and was there until he retired at the age of 62. After retirement Tony worked as a tax accountant for many years until fully retiring at the age of 85. Tony was a lifetime member of the Oconto Gun Club and one of its founding members. He was also a lifetime member of the Oconto Yacht Club and member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto. He loved fishing, hunting, playing cards and trap shooting. Tony won many trophies trap shooting. Anthony is survived by three daughters Yvonne (Larry) Teveens, MI; Sandra (Jim) Aerts, Oconto; Patty (Lindy) Leonard, Oconto; thirteen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a very special friend Del. He was preceded in death by twin daughters Gloria (Gene) Grygiel and Agnes Mercier. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2013 with prayer services by Deacon Walter Kaszynski at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, January 16 from 10 to 11 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagheruneralhome.net. A special thank you to the staff at Woodlands of Oconto, Bellin Oconto Hospital, Unity Hospice and Dr. Charles Heyka.
