Alvina “Vi” Gordon, was born April 1, 1914, and passed into the heavenly kingdom on April 1, 2015. Preceding Vi in death, in addition to her husband Jerome was a daughter, Carol, her granddaughter Katherine Poh, parents, Walter and Elsa (Voeltz) Kimpel of Oconto; sisters, Leonora Kimpel, Henrietta Neddo, Luella Strack, Ruby Hermans; brothers, Edward Kimpel and Richard Kimpel; brothers-in-law, Frank Neddo, Bernard Strack, George Hermans; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kimpel and Eunice Kimpel. Vi lived in Oconto and graduated from Oconto High School. Vi’s fondest memories include working at the Oconto Bakery, attending dances at Brookside and Cream City and when women were allowed to vote. Vi married Jerome Gordon in 1934 and moved to a farm near County Line. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Burnside, Elmhurst, IL; a son, Jerry (Karen) Gordon, Oconto; grandchildren, Jerry Gordon Jr., Jeff Poh, Jane (Brett) Barr, Richard (Kris) Gordon, Jacquelyn Gordon, Sarah Burnside, Dr. Lee (Lisa Vig) Burnside, Peter (Tamara Studniski) Burnside; twenty five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Vi was devoted to her family and community, sharing her youthful spirit with all. She was active in the Oconto Gospel Chapel, teaching Sunday school for thirty years and leading the womens missionary group. She was on the Little River Election Board, led the Cullen Ladies Aid of Swedetown and the Homemakers group. Her hobbies were creative cooking and gardening. Her home was “home away from home” for countless cousins, neighborhood children and grandchildren who needed a place to play, learn to cook or sort out troubles. They loved her playful spirit, kitchen magic, stories and deep abiding faith in Jesus and the power of prayer.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Oconto Gospel Chapel, Oconto, from 11 AM to 1 PM Saturday, April 4, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Saturday at the church with the Rev. Peter Dorn, Rev. Tom Franklin and Rev. Andrew Poh officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net
Her family extends deep appreciation to Wendy Deihlman and the staff of Country House for their tender loving care. And deep gratitude to Jeanie Carlin and the many friends and relatives who have enriched her life. We will miss her warm smile and “I love you.” May all who knew her continue to share it.
